Things to do in Bath

Bath sits about 90 minutes west of London by direct train from Paddington, and its Georgian centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site rather than a single sight to tick off.

The Roman Baths (entry roughly £20-28 depending on season and time slot, no swimming today) anchor most visits, but the honey-coloured stone of the Royal Crescent and the Circus is the reason Bath reads as one architectural set piece rather than a market town with a spa attached.

Many day tours pair Bath with Stonehenge, an hour's drive away, but treat the two as separate stops: Stonehenge is a prehistoric stone circle on Salisbury Plain, Bath is a Georgian spa city, and neither substitutes for the other. Allow at least half a day in Bath alone; combined tours often leave under three hours here.
