Things to do at Stonehenge

Stonehenge stands on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, roughly two hours from London by car or train plus connecting bus, and about an hour's drive from Bath — the two are often paired on day trips but are not next to each other.

The standard visit follows the outer path around the stone circle, included in the general admission ticket (typically in the £20-£25 range); stepping inside the circle itself requires a separate Stone Circle Access visit, run outside normal opening hours and booked well in advance through English Heritage, with strictly limited numbers.

Most people see the stones from the path in 45 minutes to an hour, plus the visitor centre and shuttle. English Heritage manages the site, which holds UNESCO World Heritage status alongside Avebury.
