Things to do in Windsor

Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world and the monarch's official residence, not a museum piece kept for visitors. That status matters in practice: state visits and royal duties can close whole sections, or the entire castle, without notice, so check the official calendar before travelling from London.

The town itself is a 30 to 50 minute train ride from Paddington or Waterloo, and tickets to the castle run in the £30 to £35 range for adults, with the Changing of the Guard at published times rather than daily. Eton College, the boys' school across the Thames, only opens on guided tours and restricts access during term time.

Expect a half-day visit, not a full one.
