Things to do on the South Bank
The South Bank is the stretch of the Thames's south side running from the London Eye to Tower Bridge, and it is the easiest way to see London without buying a single ticket. The Millennium Bridge and the riverside path give free views of St Paul's and the City skyline any time of day.
The London Eye is the exception: it is a timed-entry, paid attraction (fares vary by date and how far ahead you book, typically upward of £30), so decide in advance whether the guaranteed slot is worth it over the free view from the bridge.
Tate Modern's collection is free to enter, Shakespeare's Globe charges for tours and performances, and Borough Market is busiest around lunchtime on weekdays and gets crowded on Saturdays. The whole walk from the Eye to Borough Market takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes on foot.
